«FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND: JULIO HIRSCHMANN RECHT (1902 – 1981) AND SOLAR ENERGY IN VALPARAÍSO, CHILE»
Resumen
A mediados del siglo XX en el mundo occidental se intensificó la investigación acerca de las aplicaciones técnicas de la energía solar. En Chile uno de los actores principales de esta experiencia fue un Ingeniero Mecánico nacido en Bolivia, formado en Alemania y que, procedente de la Unión Soviética en 1937, se arraigó en Valparaíso. Las investigaciones de Julio Hirschmann Recht cubrieron los aspectos físico-químicos del fenómeno energético, pero además incorporaron aspectos sociales y culturales del complejo tecnoinstitucional. A través de un análisis de archivo y testimonios se ofrece una caracterización incipiente de la trayectoria del principal investigador de los usos de la Energía Solar en Chile, de quien aún no existe una biografía.
Summary
Research about solar energy applied was intensified in the second half of the XXth century. In Chile one of the principal researchers was a mechanical engineer who was born in Bolivia, who studied in Germany and, after he left the Soviet Union, he lived in Chile. Julio Hirschmann’s research had a physical-chemical side of the phenomenon, but he added social and cultural aspects of the techno-institutional complex. Through out archival review and eyewitness interviews, it is possible offer an initial characterization of the story of the most important researcher in the Chilean Solar Energy, who has not a biography hitherto.
